UN rejects the “parallel Rapid Support Government”

The Security Council and the Secretary-General refuse to recognize the Rapid Support Forces and close the door to any illegal representation

In a decisive step that ends the controversy, the Sudanese Mission to the United Nations confirmed that any diplomatic representation in international forums pertains to Sudan only through the legitimate government led by Lieutenant General Abdul Fattah al-Burhan and Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris.

Minister Plenipotentiary Ammar Mahmoud, Sudan’s representative to the United Nations, stressed that the international organization, the Security Council, and the Secretary-General have unequivocally declared their refusal to recognize the so-called “parallel Rapid Support Government.”

Forces loyal to the RSF militia sought to market it as a political alternative, but were met with categorical rejection from the international community.

This UN position is consistent with previous statements issued by the African Union, in which the Peace and Security Council affirmed that the only legitimate government recognized is the one in Port Sudan, denying any legitimacy to parallel initiatives.

It reflects the international consensus of the United Nations, the African Union, and many major powers such as the United States, Britain, Russia, and Arab countries.

The official Khartoum government has not lost its legitimacy despite the Rapid Support Forces militia’s attempts to create a parallel political reality.

Observers believe that this unified international position represents a devastating blow to the “parallel government” project and confirms that the doors of the United Nations are closed to any attempt to circumvent legitimacy, thus strengthening the position of the Burhan and Idris government in the regional and international arena.
