Arab Lawyers Union Calls for Condemning Militia Government and Supporting the Legitimacy of the Army

The Arab Lawyers Union called for condemning the so-called “founding government,” declared by the Rapid Support Forces militia as a parallel authority to the legitimate government in Sudan.
It urged support for national institutions, represented by the army command.

The Union’s Secretary-General, Al-Makkawi Ben Issa, said in a statement issued Tuesday that since the outbreak of the war in April 2023, they have been closely monitoring the widespread violations and crimes committed by the Rapid Support Forces militia, which violate international and humanitarian law, as well as international human rights agreements and covenants, adding that a team of experts has been assigned to investigate these crimes. The team submitted its report weeks ago and continues to work under difficult conditions to prevent the daily crimes committed by these forces from being covered up.

The statement noted that the violations committed by the militia and its supporters from political groups and some regional countries did not stop at daily killings, looting of property, destroying facilities, and raping women, but extended to the announcement of a so-called “founding” government in Nyala, South Darfur State, and the appointment of the rebel Hemedti as president, along with some armed militia leaders as deputies and ministers in the government.
