Sudan’s Childhood File Tops Priorities for Coordination between National Council and UNICEF

Dr. Abdulqadir Abdullah Abu, Secretary-General of the National Council for Child Welfare, met with Mr. Sheldon, UNICEF’s Country Director in Sudan, at his office in Port Sudan on Tuesday morning.

The visit aimed to discuss several files related to childhood and review the developments that occurred during the war period.

Dr. Abdulqadir welcomed the meeting, expressing the Council’s readiness to continue supporting child protection and care in Sudan, providing all possible assistance, and mobilizing relevant authorities to cooperate with the Council to fulfill its mission towards the country’s children.

For his part, Mr. Sheldon instructed all technical levels within UNICEF to cooperate with the Council’s various secretariats and review the childhood situation in all states, given the exceptional circumstances Sudan is facing.

Mr. Sheldon emphasized the importance of coordinating with the National Council for Child Welfare, as the legally and nationally authorized body to monitor children’s conditions in the country, stressing UNICEF’s readiness to support all protection-related strategies.

Dr. Abdulqadir Abu, the Council’s Commissioner, affirmed that coordination with UNICEF would continue to implement the project plan aimed at promoting the childhood file in Sudan.
