Sudan celebrates Breastfeeding Week

Sudan and the international community celebrated, on Monday, at the Judicial Authority Hall in Sinja, the World Breastfeeding Week, which came under the slogan “Prioritizing Breastfeeding through the Establishment of Sustainable Systems”.
Addressing the celebration , the Undersecretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohammed Ibrahim, saying that breastfeeding is important to protect children from diseases, praising partners from international, UN and national organizations.

The representative of Sennar Governor , Director General of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Awad, stressed that breastfeeding is the basis of health care, which confirms its importance in protecting against diseases and proper upbringing, and its health and economic impact, adding that “breast milk contains antibiotics.”

The Director of Maternal and Child Health at the Federal Ministry of Health, Dr. Ismahan Al-Khair, said that the slogan of the celebration reflects the commitment of everyone to establish supportive and sustainable systems in favor of breastfeeding, “The health of children and mothers is the goal of all of us”

Fatima Mohamed Abdel Halim, Director of the Basic Health Care Department at Sennar Health, noted that completing breastfeeding contributes to the prevention of diseases and proper construction, as well as protecting mothers from diseases such as cancer.
The UNICEF representative described breastfeeding as the first line of defense for children’s health, in terms of ensuring the prevention of diseases, including malnutrition, stressing that the organization provides technical and material support by forming groups to support mothers in all parts of Sudan.

The Director of the Nutrition Program in Sennar, Manal Dweina, pointed out that the slogan means that promoting breastfeeding is a shared societal responsibility, indicating that the establishment of sustainable systems by creating a work environment for breastfeeding, pledges to work together to strengthen the feeding program for young infants and remove obstacles in front of it.
