Finance Minister Directs Timely Payment of Government Dues to Telecom Sector

Dr. Gibril Ibrahim, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, directed the implementation of the decision to directly collect the previously imposed 40% value-added tax on services provided by the telecom sector. The tax will be deposited immediately after any transaction is processed into the government’s bank account. During an expanded meeting today with the participation of the Minister of Telecommunications and Digital Transformation, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance, the Undersecretary of Telecommunications, the Secretary-General of the Tax Bureau, and representatives of telecom companies, the Minister emphasized the ministry’s commitment to collecting state revenues on time in the context of achieving the goals of resource mobilization and spending on priorities.

Eng. Ahmed El-Dardiri Ghandour, Minister of Telecommunications and Digital Transformation, affirmed his interest in utilizing banking applications and coordinating with telecom companies to facilitate the collection of the government’s share of its transactions and overcome any obstacles that may hinder this.

The need to implement the previous Finance Minister’s decision to deduct the government’s specified percentage from corporate transactions and pay it electronically into government bank accounts was emphasized. The importance of the Ministry of Communications and Digital Transformation’s role in strengthening the state’s efforts in this area was emphasized. A technical team was formed to implement the decision as soon as possible.
