Explanatory Statement from the Government of West Darfur State

The West Darfur state government has followed up on what has been circulating on some social media sites regarding the imposition of fees on refugee students in eastern Chad to take the Sudanese alternative certificate exams for the year 2023.
We assure public opinion and the families of the students that the state government has submitted an official request to the Federal Ministries of Finance and Education, which has been approved by the Higher Committee for the Success of the Sudanese Certificate Examinations, chaired by His Excellency the Prime Minister. Accordingly, all students have been completely exempted from any exam fees.
The state government, while respecting the views of all free activists and media professionals participating in the battle for dignity at home and abroad, warns at the same time not to be dragged into active cyber rebellion campaigns that try to obstruct the exams by spreading rumors and fabricating lies and making false accusations.
The state government also confirms that all students who have been counted have received their seating numbers in direct coordination with the competent authorities and are subject to continuous supervision and control from the state government.
With regard to the lists, the first list issued by the Jaras organization, which was marred by some precedents, was dealt with immediately, as the governor of the state, General Bahr al-Din Adam Karama, initiated urgent meetings with the Minister of Education. The basic lists were approved, which included all students who were registered and counted, in addition to the adoption of a special emergency list to accommodate exceptional cases.
Accordingly, any student who has been asked to pay fees from any entity must immediately notify the relevant authorities or do so through the official website of the West Darfur State Government.
The state government will not tolerate anyone who is proven to be involved and will be held accountable by law without exception or discrimination.
The exams are going on in full force, and no suspicious party will be allowed to hinder or thwart them.
The government of West Darfur State, which has granted all students in the state and the various states of Sudan the right to register and sit for exams, puts the interest of its students above all considerations and considers their right to education a red line that will not be touched or compromised. It is also open to any inquiries through official channels and the state government’s website. Exams are not just an educational merit but a battle of awareness and determination.
