Ambassador Al-Zein Addresses Consultative Session of the African Union Peace and Security Council

Ambassador Al-Zein Ibrahim Hussein, Sudan’s Permanent Representative to the African Union, addressed the informal consultative session of the African Union Peace and Security Council today, which preceded the official session on Sudan.
Ambassador Al-Zein provided an explanation of the developments in the humanitarian, security, and political situation in Sudan, including the formation of the Government of Hope led by Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris, which is an important step in implementing the roadmap announced by Head of the Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant General Abdul Fattah Al-Burhan, last February.

Ambassador Al-Zein called on the Council to lift the suspension of Sudan’s participation in African Union activities after the announcement of the roadmap and the completion of the formation of the civilian government, based on the African Solidarity Initiative, with the aim of supporting Sudan in achieving comprehensive peace and reconstruction.

Ambassador Al-Zein urged the Peace and Security Council to pressure the rebel militia to lift the siege of El Fasher, withdraw from civilian areas, and stop violations against civilians in Kordofan and Darfur.
He reiterated his call for the Council to continue condemning the formation of a parallel government by the rebel militia and blocking its path to Sudan’s return to the African family.
He also called on the Council to urge Sudan’s neighboring countries not to facilitate the passage of aid to the militia and its members through their airports and territories.
