Targeting 600 health institutions – evaluating water, sanitation and hygiene services

The Environmental Health and Food Control Department at the Federal Ministry of Health (MOH) organized today a training workshop to evaluate water, sanitation and hygiene services in more than 600 health institutions.

The Acting Director of the General Directorate of Basic Health Care, Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Abdullah, stressed that the training workshop is an extension of the continuous efforts to ensure a safe and clean environment for patients and service providers in health institutions by improving services, the assessment of the current situation and setting priorities to know the needs and work to provide basic services such as water and hygiene, noting that improving these services is an urgent necessity.

The Director of the Environmental Health and Food Control Department, Adel Khalifa, said that the evaluation of water and sanitation services within health institutions is important, especially in light of the conditions that the country is experiencing as a result of the war, and its effects, which necessitated evaluation and the required interventions.

The Environmental Health Officer at the World Health Organization, Ahmed Adam, revealed that the workshop aims to evaluate water and sanitation services in more than 600 health institutions in 9 states, in preparation for developing a development plan, noting that a 7-part evaluation form has been allocated.

The National Coordinator for Sanitation and Hygiene, Asia Azrak, noted that the evaluation of health institutions in Sudan was in 2021, ” now we are in the process of a new evaluation after the war to know the current situation and work on the necessary interventions.”
