Libyan warnings escalate regarding Haftar’s forces’ involvement in attacks on Sudan

A Libyan diplomatic source described the statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Libyan Government of National Unity, headed by Abdul Hamid Dabaiba, issued on Wednesday regarding the attacks by the Rapid Support Forces, Khalifa Haftar’s forces, and militias of various nationalities on the border triangle between Sudan, Libya, and Egypt, as positive and supportive of the legitimate government of Sudan and its national army, and rejecting negative interference.
The diplomatic source said that the Libyan people reject the negative interference of the UAE in Sudan and Libya, and also reject Khalifa Haftar’s attempts to drag the entire region into a regional conflict.
In a related development, a Sudanese diplomatic source praised the Government of National Unity’s position and its explicit rejection of aggression against Sudan and its people. The Sudanese source considered the Libyan Foreign Ministry’s statement to be an expression of the Libyan people’s and the Presidential Council’s support for the Sudanese people.
This support has previously been demonstrated by sheltering refugees, opening schools and universities, and receiving Sudanese students and families throughout Libya following the outbreak of war in Sudan.
A former security advisor to Khalifa Haftar had warned the Libyan forces in eastern Libya, backed by the United Arab Emirates, against engaging in what he called the “Sudanese Belt Holocaust.”
Adviser Mohammed Buisir confirmed that Haftar’s forces have been involved in supporting the Sudanese Janjaweed since the first day of the war.
He stressed the need to abandon hostility toward the Sudanese army by penetrating Sudanese territory and supporting the Rapid Support Forces militia.
The Libyan security advisor stated that the war with the Sudanese army may lead to the loss of Kufra, given that the Sudanese army has defeated the Rapid Support Forces militia in 12 Sudanese states and possesses excellent tactical military capabilities.
Member of the Supreme Council of State in Libya, Amna Amtir, had confirmed that Haftar’s forces and the Rapid Support Forces receive support from the state itself. It is a regional threat to the whole region.
The head of the Libyan National Unity Government, Abdelhamid Al-Dabiba, led a mediation to stop the war in Sudan, and received President Abdul Fattah Al-Burhan, and met in Tripoli, the commander of the Rapid Support Militia, but the mediation failed due to the rebel militia’s refusal to implement the Jeddah agreement.
The Sudanese army said in an official statement (Wednesday) that the rebel Rapid Support militia, backed by forces affiliated with Khalifa Haftar and mercenary forces, attacked the Sudanese forces in the border area with Libya and Egypt with large military forces, and that the Sudanese army withdrew from the triangle, and there is
a new positioning that enables the response to aggression.
