Khartoum State Receives 300 Returning Families by train

Yesterday evening, Tuesday, the Khartoum North Railway Station received the first batch of voluntary returnees to Khartoum State as part of the “Sultan Hassan Bargo Voluntary Return Initiative.”
The train arrived from Atbara carrying 300 families, amid official and popular welcome. The train, supervised by the Khartoum State Government and the Sudan Railways Corporation, arrived at Khartoum North Station, a practical step to enable displaced persons wishing to return to their areas of origin in the state.

The returnees were received by a high-level delegation that included leaders from the Khartoum State government, as well as the acting Executive Director of Khartoum North Locality, Mr. Sanusi Suleiman Al-Abd, representing the Governor of Khartoum State, the Director General of the Sudan Railways Corporation, Mr. Musa Al-Qom Al-Jahdi, and number of local leaders and security agencies.

During the reception, officials emphasized the state government’s commitment to providing safe and dignified return for the displaced and creating appropriate conditions for their settlement.
This unique train journey provided a practical solution and a safe transport for a large number of returnees on a single trip.

As an immediate next step, Khartoum North Locality began arranging the internal repatriation of the returnees. Dedicated transportation was prepared to transport families from Khartoum North Station to their original areas of residence across Khartoum State, ensuring a smooth arrival to their final destination.

Sultan Hassan Bargo’s initiative for voluntary return to Khartoum is part of the state government’s ongoing efforts to address the impacts of displacement, encourage the safe and sustainable voluntary return of citizens, and support their settlement and rehabilitation in their areas.
