Federal Health Undersecretary salutes efforts to contain cholera in Khartoum in record time

The Federal Emergency Operations Center held its first meeting in Khartoum, reviewing the health situation in the country, interventions from various departments to address epidemics, as well as reports from emergency departments in Kassala, Gezira, Khartoum, and Sennar states, and activities from partners, especially global health and the Kuwaiti Patients Aid Fund. The Undersecretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, described the response to the cholera epidemic in Khartoum State as a great achievement, as they contributed to reducing it and stopping the spread in record time through interventions and activities. He praised the working teams , added, “The country and health are not in the presence of the distinguished health team of workers,” directing more effort to address the epidemic in Kordofan and Darfur states.
The meeting reviewed the reports of the epidemiological situation of cholera, which confirmed the registration of 21,563 cases cumulatively, including 388 deaths, conclusively deciding the decline in the rate of infection in the last week by recording only 309 cases, including one death, attributing this to the efforts made by health, organizations and civil society.
Meanwhile, the Environmental Health and Food Control Report noted the activities carried out during the Eid al-Adha holiday, including water chlorination and waste transport in a number of states.
At the same time, the health promotion report referred to the activities in a number of states during the holiday, including mosque mentions, group and individual guidance, discussion, community dialogues and messages in the media and social media.
The quarantine report announced the return of 11,689 people to the country within a week, and the departure of
3,141 people, and returned voluntarily through the Ashkit and Ariqin crossings 2080 people, while 252 people visited emergency clinics, pointing out that preparations are in place for the return of pilgrims.
