(50) Thousand Citizens Return to Khartoum

Employees in the Khartoum locality resumed their duties on Sunday, at the locality’s headquarters and administrative units, in accordance with Khartoum State’s decision to resume work on June 15, 2025, after the forced open-ended leave was cut short due to the war.

The locality’s Executive Director, Abdel Moneim Al-Bashir, addressed the locality’s employees in the buildings, appreciating their attendance as they sought to restore reconstruction and resume work so that the locality could return to its former glory as a destination for visitors from inside and outside the country.
He stated that the locality had previously carried out emergency work, including removing the effects and remnants of war and cleaning, contracting with five companies to clean the main roads. The locality then moved to restore basic drinking water services, including a number of Nile water stations, in coordination with the state, along with more than (98) high-yield solar-powered wells, contributed by philanthropists.

Al-Bashir pointed to the return of education and health services immediately after liberation, with the holding of primary and intermediate school exams, along with the operation of a number of reference health centers.

He pointed to the extensive damage to infrastructure in Khartoum, a site of major battles. This was followed by systematic destruction by the militia of water, electricity, and other service facilities.

At the end of his remarks, he called on local workers to exert maximum efforts to restore the workflow to its previous locations prior to April 15, 2023, and to withstand the pressures of work resulting from the war.

According to eyewitnesses, the (7) localities of the state witnessed a limited return of workers on the first day, but they confirmed that the state received a large number of citizens on Sunday afternoon, exceeding (50) thousand.

Land ports and markets witnessed a noticeable flow of buses, coaches, and small cars. Omdurman ranked first in receiving returnees, followed by East Nile Locality, then Khartoum North and Jebel Aulia.
