Sudan Participates in Arab League Council Meetings at Foreign Ministers’ Level
Ambassador Hussein Al-Amin Al-Fadil, Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, headed the Sudanese delegation participating in the Arab League Council meetings at the Foreign Ministers’ level in preparation for the Arab and Economic Summits scheduled to be held next Saturday in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad. The Sudanese delegation included Ambassador Lieutenant General Imad Eddin Mustafa Adawi, Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States; Ambassador Abdel-Azim Al-Karawi, Director General of Arab Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and Ambassador Abdel-Rahim Sir Al-Khatim, Sudanese Ambassador to Iraq.
The opening session witnessed the handover of the presidency of the session from the Kingdom of Bahrain to the Republic of Iraq and the adoption of all political decisions adopted by the Arab League Council meeting at the Permanent Representatives’ level, including items related to Arab national security and the Palestinian issue.
The Ministerial Council adopted the item “Supporting Peace and Development in the Republic of Sudan,” which included an emphasis on solidarity with Sudan in its efforts to secure its resources, protect its land and vital infrastructure, preserve its sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, reject interference in its affairs, and strengthen its efforts to preserve its national institutions and prevent their collapse.
The Council also affirmed that Sudan’s security is an integral part of Arab national security and the importance of the Arab League’s role in defending the unity, integrity, and stability of all member states. The Council also called on all Arab countries and organizations to provide humanitarian and development support, call for a ceasefire in accordance with the Jeddah Declaration, explore the possibility of resuming the Jeddah process, and invite the Arab Contact Group, composed of the foreign ministers of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Arab Republic of Egypt, and the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, to continue its good offices to reach solutions that meet the aspirations of the Sudanese people for stability and development.
Ambassador Hussein Al-Amin Al-Fadil, Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, affirmed that the meeting affirmed full solidarity with the government and people of Sudan, emphasizing that Sudan had called on the Council to preserve state institutions and prevent its collapse.
The Undersecretary explained that he had briefed the Arab foreign ministers on the reality of the situation in the country and the humanitarian and development efforts being made to enhance the response to various current challenges.
The Undersecretary expressed Sudan’s appreciation for the supportive and ongoing Arab positions, emphasizing that Sudan is always keen to strengthen engagement with the Arab League and its various institutions, especially in light of the reconstruction phase the country is facing.
