1,392 cases of sexual violence committed by the rebel militia in the country.

Maulana Rawda Idris Abdul Qadir, a member of the National Committee to Investigate Crimes and Violations of National Law and International Humanitarian Law, revealed the monitoring of 1,392 cases of sexual violence, according to the report from the Unit for Combating Violence against Women and Children at the hands of the Rapid Support Rebel Militia since the outbreak of war on April 15, 2023, in different regions.

She stated at the enlightenment conference of the Ministry of Culture and Information, organized by the Sudan News Agency in Port Sudan, that all these violations and attacks were documented by the rebel militia members themselves through video recordings showing cases of rape, forced pregnancy, and kidnapping.

She pointed out that the assaults and violence that took place, whether individual or collective, were for the purpose of humiliation, stressing that what was documented is less than what actually occurred, which is less than 2% of the volume of cases on the ground.

She said that these violations under international humanitarian law are classified as war crimes and crimes against humanity, pointing to the role of the prosecution in protecting women’s rights and providing justice to survivors.
