MSF condemns attack the RSF attack

MSF France said that a drone belonging to the Rapid Support Forces targeted the Meroe power station in Northern State, Sudan, causing extensive damage and widespread power outages in several areas, including Omdurman, where MSF supports the Al-Nao and Al-Buluk Children’s Hospitals.

The organization added that these repeated power outages paralyze vital life-saving health services, causing the third widespread power outage in Omdurman this year, with no end in sight.

MSF is intervening to support hospitals in Omdurman by providing fuel for generators, water trucking, and alternative energy sources.

MSF has rented an emergency generator for Al-Buluk Children’s Hospital and also delivers water daily to ensure continuity of operations.

At Al-Nao Hospital, the well has been pre-equipped with solar energy, helping to ensure the continuity of life-saving health services and the maintenance of basic hygiene even during power outages.

According to Doctors Without Borders (MSF), the risk of a cholera outbreak is increasing daily due to water scarcity. MSF supports the cholera treatment units at Al-Nao Hospital and Al-Jazeera Islang Health Center.

In a press release, the MSF statement continued, “We are working to install water tanks in displacement sites as quickly as possible, and we are fully prepared to provide oxygen to health facilities should the situation deteriorate.”

MSF condemns attacks targeting civilian infrastructure, which exacerbate the humanitarian crisis, and calls for their immediate cessation. Such attacks violate international humanitarian law and put lives at risk.
