Sudan expresses its desire to resume its activity in IGAD

Sudan renewed its desire to resume its activity in the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) after it had frozen its membership in it for reasons related to the organization’s positions on the war taking place in it.

Deputy Head of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Malik Agar, who arrived in Djibouti (Sunday), conveyed a written message to the President of Djibouti, Ismail Omar Guelleh, from the Head of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant General Abdul Fattah Al-Burhan, regarding bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to develop them.

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Hussein Al-Amin Al-Fadil, said in a press statement that the Deputy Head of the Sovereignty Council and the President of Djibouti discussed during the meeting the developments in the situation and the political path in the country and Sudan’s file in the African Union and the IGAD organization.

He added that Agar congratulated the President of Djibouti on his country’s victory in the presidency of the African Union Commission, represented by Mr. Mahmoud Ali Youssef, who was elected as the Chairman of the Commission during the last summit, expressing Sudan’s confidence that the new leadership will be able to correct the Commission’s course towards carrying out its role in the required manner in finding effective African solutions to African issues.
