Al-Burhan meets the Director General of African Affairs at the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office

Head of the Sovereignty Council, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Abdul Fattah Al-Burhan met today with Harriet Matthews, Director General of African Affairs at the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office, in the presence of the UK’s Special Envoy to Sudan, Richard Crowder.

Ambassador Nour El-Daim Abdel Qader, Director of European and American Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that the meeting discussed the overall developments in the country and the Sudanese government’s vision for achieving peace and stability and ending the war, and the path of civil democratic transformation.

The ambassador pointed out that Head of the Sovereignty Council confirmed the Sudanese government’s determination to achieve civil democratic transformation and achieve national consensus, in addition to its readiness to provide all necessary facilities to deliver humanitarian aid to those who deserve it.

The Director of European and American Affairs at the Foreign Office added that Head of the Sovereignty Council praised Britain’s position in support of Sudan’s sovereignty and the unity of its lands and territory, and its rejection of announcing the formation of a parallel government in Sudan, which threatens the security and unity of Sudan.
The ambassador said that the British side was informed of the Sudanese government’s efforts to achieve peace and its vision regarding the conference scheduled to be held in London on Sudan’s issues and the importance of expanding the circle of Sudanese participation in it.
The ambassador expressed his appreciation to the British government for condemning the crimes and violations committed by the terrorist militia against citizens and civilian objects and the destruction of the infrastructure of the Sudanese state, ethnic cleansing and genocide, calling for the importance of condemning the countries and parties supporting and backing the terrorist militia.
The ambassador added, “We seek a positive role for Britain in supporting Sudan’s issues and developing dialogue between the two countries according to common interests and strengthening bilateral relations.”
For her part, Harriet Matthews affirmed her country’s support for peace in Sudan, and said, “The United Kingdom will play an important role in ensuring any path towards peace,” expressing her deep concern about the formation of a parallel government that supports the rebel Rapid Support Forces, adding, “If we want lasting peace in Sudan, this requires the unity and integrity of Sudanese territory.”
She pointed out that the meeting was positive and addressed efforts to create peaceful conditions to end the war, and her country’s role in hosting the international community in London to discuss creating a space for peace in Sudan to end the war.
The meeting also addressed providing and bringing in humanitarian and necessary needs for the Sudanese through the crossings, noting that the United Kingdom will play a role in providing aid to those in need, praising the continued entry of humanitarian aid through the Adre crossing.
She expressed her concern and condemnation of the attacks by the rebel Rapid Support Forces on camps for displaced persons and refugees and civilian infrastructure, stressing the importance of respecting and implementing the Jeddah outcomes to protect civilians.
