Hopes and dreams for a safe return

Expectations are running high among Sudanese civilians for an end to the brutal war raging in their country.
The latest initiative spearheaded by turkey to settle the conflict has raised hope that the suffering of millions would come to an end.
Since the war broke out, many are still grappling with the torment of not knowing the fate of their loved ones.
Amina’s story:
After enduring a hazardous journey through the desert, Amina and her tow young children managed to reach Egypt after her husband was killed by RSF in their village in Algezeera state. Fearing for her life and that of her children, she had no choice but to join thousands of Sudanese who fled the country and illegally crossed the border and sought refuge in Egypt.
I met her at the home of her relatives in Cairo, where she told me that her family split up by the war and her only brother went missing in Omdurman when fighting broke out there in 2024. She is now waiting for an end to the war so she can go back to her village and pick up the pieces of her shattered life.
The head of the sovereign council, Abdul Fattah Alburhan, in a speech marking the 69th independence day anniversary, rejected reconciliation with the RSF but expressed his readiness to participate in any peace initiative that would end the war and facilitate the safe return of displaced civilians.
But, many observers believe that any negotiations to end the war must prioritize humanitarian access and building the devastated infrastructure.
They add that a true resolution will require accountability for human abuses and long-term rebuilding plans,therefore peace in Sudan cannot be rushed or simplistic; it must be deliberate, multifaceted and sustained.
All the hope that Amina and other displaced Sudanese would be able to reunite with their folks and the country returns to the way it was before the war.
