Finance Ministry denies statement attributed to Minister of Finance

The Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning confirmed that what was circulated on social media about the state’s intention to sell lands to neighboring countries to cover spending on the war effort is completely false and has no credibility, and that the circulated statement is a slander against the minister and has no basis in truth, but rather completely contradicts the statements of the Minister, Dr. Gibril Ibrahim, who has continued to confirm in all his statements the commitment of the budget approved by the Council of Ministers to mobilize self-resources and spend on the specified priorities, the most important of which is increasing spending on the war effort and fulfilling all obligations of the regular forces to preserve Sudan’s sovereignty and security, with a commitment to increasing spending on health, education, electricity, workers’ compensation, paying pensioners’ dues, strengthening social protection networks, providing the requirements of the displaced and refugees in neighboring countries for humanitarian aid, in addition to ensuring the provision of basic goods and services to citizens and committing to transfers of the states specified in advance according to the revenues actually collected from the center, and the budget is committed to supporting media organizations and paying Sudan’s external obligations.
The Minister confirms that the budget is completely free of any new taxes or fees; and that it will work primarily to mobilize self-resources and increase revenues by increasing effort and raising the efficiency of collection using technical systems in the context of the state’s orientations towards digital transformation, while controlling customs exemptions and limiting them to exemptions included in binding laws only; and continuing efforts to enhance the role of financial oversight agencies and the rule of law and institutionalism in a way that ensures the Ministry of Finance’s authority over public money. In addition to the government’s interest in activating partnership with the private sector to support the capabilities of the national economy.
It is noteworthy that the new year’s budget received – upon its approval – praise from the Council of Ministers for the estimated effort in preparing it and its commitment to promoting the value of self-reliance and spending on priorities.
