Al-Burhan meets the delegation of the Sudanese Football Association
Head of the Sovereignty Council, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, 1st. Lieutenant General Abdul Fattah Al-Burhan, met yesterday with the delegation of the Sudanese Football Association, headed by Dr. Moatasem Jaafar, Chairman of the Association.
Dr. Moatasem Jaafar said that the delegation of the Association congratulated the Head of the Sovereignty Council on the occasion of the qualification of the Sudanese national team for the two largest tournaments at the level of the African Union, which are the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the African Nations Championship for Local Players (CHAN), expressing his happiness at the Sudanese national team reaching this stage in light of the challenges currently facing the country.
Dr. Moatasem said: “With the determination, persistence and effort of the players and the experience and wisdom of the technical staff led by coach Kwasi Appiah, the Sudanese national team was able to reach this stage of qualifying for these two tournaments.
He stressed the determination to continue the effort to achieve more victories, and to continue the progress in the World Cup competition that will start next March as part of the qualifiers for the World Cup finals.
He added that he provided an enlightenment to the Head of the Sovereignty Council about the plans, programs and projects of the union, the most important of which is how to play inside Sudan and rehabilitate Karima Stadium, noting that the Hesd of the Sovereignty Council expressed his full response to all plans and programs for the renaissance of the sports sector, and he also confirmed his interest in supporting the stadium rehabilitation project.
Dr. Moatasem indicated that the meeting touched on the Association’s plan to start the Premier League championship, which will start on the tenth of this January in (8) cities across Sudan through (4) groups, where the matches of the White Nile group will be held in (Kosti and Rabak) and the River Nile group in (Abu Hamad and Berber), while the matches of the Northern Group will be held in (Dongola and Karima), and the Eastern Group in (Gadarif and Kassala). Dr. Moatasem stressed that they seek to raise the flag of Sudan abroad through football and Sudan’s participation in all sports events, noting that the Head of the Sovereignty Council congratulated the technical staff of the Sudanese national team on this achievement that will be added to Sudan’s journey in the field of football.
