IGAD Executive Secretary, Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu posted the following on the occasion of the New Year

As we usher in the New Year, we reflect on the trials and triumphs that have shaped our region. Despite the conflicts and tensions that have challenged us—most notably the ongoing crisis in Sudan, where the people continue to endure immense suffering—our region has demonstrated resilience.

Against all odds, we have made progress and overcome numerous challenges, reinforcing our collective strength and determination.

As we enter this new chapter, we carry hope for a brighter future. Together, we can build on our successes, address lingering challenges, and create opportunities for our people.
