Afwerki: Resolution of the conflict in the Sudan must not be encumbered by external interferences

President Isaias Afwerki met Wednesday, at the Deaden Guest House, in Eritrea the UN Secretary General’s Envoy for the Sudan, Mr. Ramtane Lamamra, for extensive discussions on regional developments; and especially the conflict in the Sudan.

President Isaias elucidated, in greater detail, Eritrea’s perspectives on the resolution of the conflict in the Sudan anchored on Sudanese own efforts that is not encumbered by external interferences and that is rooted on a roadmap that guarantees veritable peace.
This path would ensure Sudan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as restore Sudan’s rightful place in the global community of nations, President Isaias underlined.

Mr. Lamamra, for his part, stated that the primary purpose of his consultative visit to Eritrea was to exchange and solicit views on ways and means of expediting an enduring solution to the conflict in the Sudan by bringing the two warring sides to the negotiating table.

In this perspective, Mr. Lamamra expressed appreciation for Eritrea’s perspectives and assessment on the multiple parameters and variables that impact on the Sudan peace process; the external interferences that have exacerbated the conflict; as well as important approaches for securing an agreement between the two sides.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Osman Saleh, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and representatives of UN Offices in Eritrea.

Few months ago and during the Afwerki affirmed in his speech during the Sudan Neighboring Countries Conference held in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, in the presence of President Sisi that Sudanese people will have the final say in resolving the crisis, calling for respecting the independence and sovereignty of Sudan.

The President of Eritrea also called for preventing foreign interference in Sudanese affairs.

Continuous Endeavors:

Within his endeavors to stop the devastating war in Sudan President Afwerki received the Sudanese United Popular Front for Liberation and Justice delegation in the Eritrean capital, Asmara, on Sunday.

The Front said in a statement that the Eritrean president was reassured about the position of the movements in eastern Sudan and their readiness for what it called “participation and confrontation to protect Sudan and the region from all foreign ambitions.”

It explained that they agreed with the Eritrean president on commonalities related to building a national project that protects the sovereignty of countries and the region from any negative interventions that destabilize political and social stability, indicating that the meeting discussed the challenges facing Sudan.
The Front stressed that the climate in the country has become suitable for what it called the restoration of the Sudanese state according to a national project that enhances national unity and equal citizenship among all citizens of the same country.
The Front renewed its broad confidence in the State of Eritrea, government and people, in their sincere stand with the Sudanese people.
It is to be noted that the Front is fully supporting the Sudanese army in its dignity war.

We believe that the tireless efforts of the Eritrean President will lead to a reasonable resolution to stop the conflict in Sudan.
