Interior meets IOM Director General

Minister of Interior, Major General Khalil Pasha Sayreen, praised the vital role played by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for its rapid response towards Sudan’s humanitarian crisis.
This came during his meeting with Ms. Amy Pope, Director General of the International Organization for Migration, today, Thursday, October 17, at the organization’s headquarters in Geneva, on the sidelines of his participation in the meetings of the Executive Committee of the High Commissioner’s Programme of Action.

The Minister stressed that Sudan is counting on a greater role for the organization in supporting Sudanese migrants, especially in light of the complications they face in entering and residing in some neighboring countries.
He also discussed the conditions of Sudanese returning to the country, stressing the need for greater support for them from the organization.
He also appreciated the role of the organization in providing technical
support and capacity building to the General Administration of Immigration, Passports and Customs, especially in the field of border management.
For her part, the Director General of the International Organization for Migration affirmed the organization’s commitment to continue working with Sudan to provide the necessary support to migrants and refugees, and to work on developing long-term development programs that help stabilize the situation and improve the conditions of migrants and returnees. She pointed out that the organization will continue its efforts to provide innovative solutions that guarantee a decent life for Sudanese inside and outside the country.
