Life and the Mind!

By: Alaa Babiker

Life is simple. It is a way to be ourselves and live our ways, each as one’s mind is set to. Mind setting is the master key of living a decent life, making honourable decisions, and acting and reacting according to respectful perspectives of both our minds and our lives.

Mind programming is the first aspect that defines a person’s path in life. The mind is the most powerful being ever created inside humans. It doesn’t only defines our way of thinking, but it also allows us to actively interact with our surroundings.
According to the National Institute of Mental Health: “the brain finishes developing and maturing in the mid-to-late 20s. The part of the brain behind the forehead, called the prefrontal cortex, is one of the last parts to mature”. This is the physiological development of the brain. But what about the spiritual and the emotional development of the mind?! Many of us lack the maturity that gives them the strength to move on and live decent lives. Some minds are severely still stuck in the past to the point that people are being uncapable of performing the everyday interactions without ever being able to be productive individuals in their societies.
“Recent imaging studies suggest that the development of the emotional brain involves a cascade of changes in limbic and cognitive control circuitry. These changes are particularly pronounced during adolescence, when the demand for self regulation across a variety of emotional and social situations may be greatest” – ScienceDirect.

It is the positive and good raising of man from childhood through adolescence to adulthood that defines one’s attitude in life. Some are lucky to have parents well aware of the significance of raising a healthy child, while many are being victims of illiteracy. The illiteracy of the importance of mental health and good raising. The fact that specific populations are acting in certain destructive ways at all levels is strongly linked to the amount of illiteracy spread in that specific country. The importance of mental heath, proper psychological, emotional, and physical development, and even a child’s nutrition, are all interlinked to the production of civilized population and well developed members of societies that know their responsibilities towards themselves, their families, and their communities, whether these individuals are youth, employees, or even leaders!

Always pray to Allah to grant wisdom and positive thinking upon our leaders to end this crisis.
