Joint IGAD- UN talks on Peace and Security in the Horn of Africa

Chaired by IGAD Executive Secretary Workneh Gebeyehu and UN Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa Hannah Tetteh, joint talks took place aiming at coordinating regional and other stakeholders efforts to achieve peace and security in the Horn of Africa.

Joint IGAD-UN talks on peace and security in the Horn of Africa aim to coordinate regional organizations and other stakeholders.

For his part, the Executive Secretary of IGAD, Workneh Gebeyehu expressed deep concern over the ongoing conflicts in the region and Sudan.
He urged all to leverage their strengths to support peace efforts, commending the efforts of the UN in this regard.

After the meeting Gebeyehu posted the following in his x platform:
“This morning, #IGAD and the #UN co-hosted High-Level Consultations on Peace and Security in the Horn of Africa. I expressed deep concern about the ongoing conflicts in Sudan and other parts of the Region,which have caused humanitarian crises and worsening the strain on our member states.
I stressed the importance of coordination among multilateral organizations and other stakeholders in our efforts and urged to leverage our strengths to support the peace processes.
I am grateful to H.E Hanna Tetteh, UN Special Envoy for Horn of Africa to the region for her commitment and contributions towards this effort.”
