Executive Secretary of IGAD meets US Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa

The Executive Secretary, Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), H. E. Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu
received in his office the
US Special Envoy to the Horn of Africa Mike Hammer.
Gebeyehu emphasized IGAD’s firm commitment to promoting regional peace and stability.
The meeting also discussed the current situation in the region, with a focus on Sudan. The Executive Secretary appreciated the joint efforts between the two sides and development partners to promote lasting peace and sustainable development in the region, reaffirming
the organization’s commitment to redouble efforts to bring peace to Sudan and the region. The meeting discussed regional issues of common interest.
The meeting was attended by Ambassador Stephanie Sullivan of the US Mission to the African Union.

After the meeting Gebeyehu posted the following on his x platform:
“Today, I had a productive meeting with US Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, Amb. Mike Hamer and Amb Stephanie S. Sullivan the US mission to the African Union .
We discussed regional issues of mutual concern and reaffirmed our commitment to doubling efforts to bring peace to Sudan and other parts of the region.”
