Foreign Ministry Rejects Human Rights Council Fact-finding Report

In a press release, the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced its full rejection to the report of the Human Rights Council in October 2023, and reaffirmed its rejection of cooperation with the mission.
The statement indicated that the committee pre-empted the convening of the new session of the council on September 10, by publishing its report and holding a press conference before it was officially presented to the council.
The statement stressed that the recommendations contained in the report support hostile international moves towards Sudan and call for an arms embargo, which includes the Sudanese armed forces, in clear contradiction to its mission to protect civilians from crimes committed by the Rapid Support Militia.
The statement also noted that the formation of an international force to protect civilians is an unrealistic proposal, given that it is difficult to implement it on a large scale.
With regard to the protection of civilians, the Sudanese government confirmed that it had given this file a top priority, as it signed the Jeddah Declaration in May 2023 and put forward practical proposals to ensure implementation.
The Ministry referred to the formation of a national committee to investigate crimes and violations committed, stressing the importance of supporting the national judicial process rather than imposing alternative international mechanisms.
Finally, the Sudanese government renewed its rejection of the mission’s recommendations in full and stressed its refusal to cooperate with it.
