Executive Secretary of IGAD meets Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs in New York

On the sidelines of the seventy-ninth session of the United Nations General Assembly meeting, the Executive Secretary of IGAD, Meeting with the Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Ms. Molly, where the two officials discussed the challenges of peace and security in the region, with an emphasis on the Sudan crisis and efforts to ease regional tensions, stressing the strengthening of cooperative efforts to address these issues.
Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu affirmed IGAD’s commitment to partnership with the United States and other stakeholders to promote stability and peace throughout the region.
After the meeting Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu posted the following on x platform:
“Had a discussion with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, H.E. Molly Phee, on the margins of #UNGA79 about the peace and security challenges in our region, with an emphasis on the Sudan crisis and efforts to ease regional tensions.
We reaffirmed the crucial need for collaborative efforts to address these issues. IGAD remains committed to partnering with the U.S. and other stakeholders to promote stability and peace across the region.”
