The Sudanese government’s statement regarding the Geneva negotiations

The Sudanese government’s official spokesman, Graham Abdel-Qader, issued a press release, in which he said:
In reference to the consultative meeting between the Government of Sudan, headed by Minister Mohamed Bashir Abu Namu, and the American delegation headed by Mr. Tom Perriellio.
The consultative meeting was held on August 9-10, 2024, in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
According to the content of the consultative meeting, the following were the outcomes:
1. The failure of the US delegation to push the rebel militia to commit to implementing the Jeddah Declaration, which includes the obligation to protect civilians in Sudan and is based on international humanitarian law and human rights law.
2. The insistence of the American delegation on the participation of the United Arab Emirates as an observer in the meeting.
3. The American delegation did not provide a justification for the establishment of a new platform.
4. The US delegation relied on incorrect information in evaluating the situation in Sudan.

The Sudanese government expresses the aspirations and hopes of the Sudanese people, who are subjected to all forms of violence and grave violations, and the loss of their achievements and material, moral and properties by the rebel militia.
Accordingly, the Government of Sudan affirms its adherence to the implementation of the Jeddah Declaration signed on May 11, 2023, and rejects the presence of any new observers or facilitators.
The Sudanese government welcomes initiatives that meet, respond to and preserve the country’s sovereignty and the dignity of the Sudanese people.
