Just a cup of coffee!

By: Alaa Babiker
Today in the morning I was sitting calmly, looking through the window to nothing but the future of myself, my family, and the Sudanese inside the country and outside. Holding a cup of coffee that felt little hot to drink for a moment, I kept thinking of how am I going to survive and my family during these difficult times?! I am well educated and I have enough years of work experience that qualifies me to work at great institutions, or even start my own small business at any time. But as this idea was reflected on my mind, I realized that this is the kind of thoughts that more than 80% of the Sudanese population have been thinking for the past 15 months! How to survive?!
The cup of coffee has cooled a little, but the thinking was still on flame. And the questions are rising everyday; what to do? Where to go? Who to talk and complain to? Who will help and who will listen? But most importantly, when will it all stop?! The answers to these questions differ from day to day, depending on the different peace forums and initiatives that are held on a regular basis in different countries, and depending on the intentions of those who are still commanding the killings on the ground and sitting on the reconciliation tables negotiating peace!
I used to drink the coffee when it gets warm, you know not too burning and not too cold, but in this particular morning when I took a sip of it, the temperature was good, but the taste was not there! Many of us are still breathing inside the land of Sudan, our home, but the majority have lost the taste of being alive, and here another question is raised: how to feel alive again? The answer to think question is provided by many religious people who have been blessed by the mercy of faith, many of them recommend Prayers, lots of prayers to be the only tremendously positive action that we can regularly perform as humans just to feel like living again. It is the one thing that takes away all the sorrows and the negativities away from our minds and souls. Pure, honest, and regular prayers can actually give back taste to everything including our lives. Let us all rise our hands to Allah and ask him to help the Sudanese Armed Forces and give strength and good and clear thinking to our leaders to end this war and to start building Sudan again.
