Graham praises cooperation with UNESCO، unveils a plan to address post-war antiquities issues

The International Organization for Education, Culture and Science (UNESCO) provided devices and equipment to protect Sudanese museums within the project to protect the Sudanese cultural heritage, within the framework of cooperation between the organization, the Ministry of Culture and Information, and the General Authority for Antiquities and Museums.
The Minister of Culture and Information, Dr. Graham Abdel Qader, revealed an ambitious plan to address the issues of antiquities, their maintenance and protection, and their re-display after the war.
He stressed the continuation of contacts between Sudan and UNESCO at the regional and international levels regarding issues related to the cultural values ​​of Sudanese antiquities in light of the war, indicating the existence of threats that require international cooperation.
He reiterated his confirmation that the Committee for the Protection of Antiquities is communicating with Interpol and international bodies.
Cooperation with UNESCO was considered fruitful and positive and resulted in a consensus to protect antiquities, provide sufficient information about archaeological collections, and support artists who work within the framework of material and non-material culture.
He pointed out that cooperation with the international community in the field of antiquities, represented by UNESCO, will have implications to serve the issues of antiquities and tourism.
He stressed that the equipment and devices provided by UNESCO will help provide information, documentation, and support workers
Dr. said. Abdul Rahman Ali, UNESCO Culture File Officer, Sudan Office, said that UNESCO provided these devices and equipment to protect Sudanese heritage and antiquities.
It also allocated financial support to the Antiquities Authority to support five museums in the safe states and worked on a risk assessment for 9 sites in the North and River Nile, 8 of which are registered on the World Heritage List at the sites of Jebel Barkal, Napata, Meroe, and the Pyramids of Al-Bajrawiya.
