Sudan-Madonna Black Madonna

At the entrance of the Sudan National Museum gate, you will find a mural of the Madonna mural hanging with other murals. The copy of the original was executed inside the National Museum in the 1960s by Sudanese artist Kamala Ibrahim Ishaq when she was commissioned by the museum, where she began studying the successive eras from primitive art until the era of pre-Christian history.
The Madonna mural was executed similarly within a year and a half and then placed at the entrance of the Sudanese National Museum.
The mural represents the Madonna, the mother of Christ, holding her child and sitting on a chair. The mother and child’s faces were brown, while their clothes were black.
The original masterpiece was displayed at the New York International Fair, Sudan Pavilion, for two years, then returned to the Sudan Museum. The method of storing it inside was not scientific, which led to its damage. It is the only unparalleled archaeological masterpiece in the world and the only one of its kind.
When Emperor Haile Selassie visited the museum and looked at the drawing, he thought it was the original, and it was in the presence of the artist Kamala.
