Paper on Women Participation in Political Process Launched

The strategic initiative for the women of the Horn of Africa Wednesday launched its paper presented to IGAD regarding opening the doors for women and civil participation in the change towards democracy and civil rule in Sudan, through a briefing conference that it held at Muhandis (Engineer) Club in Khartoum.

The initiative aims to convey the voices of women from different groups and backgrounds, highlighting on the role of women in the political arena, as well as ensuring their participation in all the political activities and processes.

The Secretary General of the Community Development Association and a political activist in humanitarian work, Maali Mohamed, explained that the strategic initiative for the women of the Horn of Africa is an initiative that includes a group of Sudanese women, their political and religious affiliation is different, and from different regions of Sudan, who have a unified vision that there is a real democratic transition that empowers women to share their ideas openly, and that women are to be present at all stages of negotiation, whether they are political entities or women bodies, with real participation in the current and coming political process.

Mona Abdalla, who is concerned with the minority issues and part of the founders of the “Platform for Change” project, said that the aim of the initiative is to work for building a new Sudan that accommodates everyone.

She indicated that the statement on women issues in peace includes the methodology of gender equality in the axes of security arrangements, political issues, and the peace issues.
