Marble Leads Investment Opportunities as Geological Research Authority and Sennar State Explore Industrial Minerals Potential

The Director General of the Geological Research Authority, Consultant Geologist Ahmed Haroun Al-Tom, underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation with the Government of Sennar State to implement a comprehensive geological survey project aimed at identifying the state’s rich mineral resources and creating an attractive environment for investment in the mining sector.
Speaking during his meeting with the Governor of Sennar State on Sunday, Al-Tom said the Authority is moving forward with a strategic vision focused on updating geological maps and databases and conducting the necessary technical studies. He noted that Sennar State possesses promising geological potential, particularly in industrial minerals, with marble standing out as one of its most abundant resources. He added that the geological survey will help determine and evaluate mineral reserves, enhance investment opportunities, create employment, and contribute to sustainable economic development.
For his part, the Governor of Sennar State, Lt. Gen. Al-Zubair Hassan, affirmed that the state is endowed with significant natural resources that have yet to be fully utilized. He stressed that the partnership with the Geological Research Authority represents a strategic step toward developing these resources on a sound scientific basis to achieve sustainable development, strengthen the economy, improve public services, and generate tangible benefits for local communities.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Finance, Economy and Labour of Sennar State stated that although the state’s economy has traditionally relied on agriculture, it also possesses substantial mineral resources capable of diversifying its economic base. He called for the swift implementation of the comprehensive geological survey and the reactivation of the Authority’s office in the state. He further emphasized that industrial minerals—particularly marble—offer high-return investment opportunities with comparatively lower environmental impacts, making them a key driver for sustainable development and investment attraction.
