Head of the Supreme Council for Social Peace: The Next Battle Is Protecting Sudan’s Social Fabric from Hate Speech and Division

The Chairman of the Supreme Council for Social Peace, Al-Nour Al-Sheikh Al-Nour, received Kassala State Governor, Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Al-Sadiq Mohamed Al-Azraq, at the Council’s headquarters today. Their meeting focused on issues of social peace, strengthening social cohesion, and addressing the challenges facing Kassala State and Eastern Sudan.
During the meeting, Al-Nour presented a comprehensive briefing on the Council’s objectives, its current and future vision for addressing social issues, as well as its mandate and role in tackling the challenges confronting Sudanese society. He stressed that the next phase requires an integrated vision to rebuild trust and reinforce social cohesion.
Al-Nour stated that, following the militia’s defeat on the battlefield, it had resorted to what he described as “Plan B” by targeting Sudan’s social fabric and attempting to divide communities through various forms of hate speech. He emphasized that this places a significant responsibility on the Supreme Council for Social Peace to safeguard society and confront narratives that promote hatred and division.
He underscored the strategic importance of Eastern Sudan and its rich social and cultural diversity, stressing the need to preserve its social unity and prevent any attempts to undermine its cohesion.
The Council Chairman also revealed plans to launch what he called a “Social Awareness Revolution,” beginning with educational curricula, alongside an urgent action plan and long-term programs aimed at addressing deep-rooted social distortions while promoting coexistence, peace, and acceptance of others.
Al-Nour criticized attempts to fragment Sudan from within through disputes over tribal land rights, arguing that such conflicts have fueled serious social tensions and calling for comprehensive solutions that preserve both national unity and social stability.
For his part, Kassala Governor Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Al-Sadiq Mohamed Al-Azraq praised the role of the Supreme Council for Social Peace, noting that Kassala is among the states most in need of organized social initiatives due to the community challenges and disputes it faces. He stressed the importance of translating the Council’s goals and programs into practical action.
The Governor affirmed that Kassala requires high-quality social initiatives capable of strengthening social peace and addressing the root causes of conflict. He emphasized that the Council should serve as an effective national platform for addressing issues related to social peace and societal stability.
Al-Azraq further warned that Kassala is facing attempts to destabilize Sudan through hate speech and negative media campaigns targeting Eastern Sudan. He called for raising public awareness and strengthening the role of traditional leaders and community groups in confronting these challenges while promoting coexistence and national unity.
The meeting concluded by emphasizing the importance of coordinated efforts between state institutions and local communities, as well as activating the role of institutions responsible for social peace, recognizing that protecting Sudan’s social fabric is a fundamental pillar for the country’s stability and for creating the conditions necessary for post-war recovery and national reconstruction.
