Sudan’s Health Minister: 75% of Essential Health Facilities Restored, Full Recovery Within Reach

Sudan’s Minister of Health ، Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim announced that 75% of the country’s essential medical and healthcare institutions have resumed operations following the widespread destruction caused by the war, affirming that the government is making steady progress toward restoring the sector to full capacity in the near future.

Speaking at the 61st Media Forum organized by the Ministry of Culture, Information, Antiquities and Tourism and hosted by the Sudan News Agency (SUNA) at the Cultural Center in Omdurman, the minister said the health sector is being managed through six strategic pillars that address all aspects of healthcare, with continuous progress being made to provide services that meet citizens’ needs.

He explained that during the height of the conflict, the ministry’s primary focus was on saving lives, but the situation has now shifted significantly. Following the ministry’s return to Khartoum, efforts have moved toward rebuilding an integrated institutional healthcare system. He added that the remaining hospitals in Khartoum are expected to resume operations in the coming period.

The minister also revealed a comprehensive recovery plan, named the Hope Strategy, developed with the support of the World Health Organization (WHO).

The strategy is scheduled to be officially launched on Wednesday this week and aims to achieve equitable and comprehensive healthcare services across Sudan.
