Sudanese Police Bust Criminal Network in Omdurman, Seize Over One Ton of Smuggled Copper, Illegal Medicines and Firearms

In what has been described as one of the most significant operations against organized crime and economic crimes, the Field Operations Team of the Trade, Supply and Consumer Protection Investigation Department in Khartoum State dismantled a dangerous criminal network operating from a residential house in an upscale neighborhood of Omdurman.
The operation followed credible intelligence indicating that the house was being used as a secret warehouse to store large quantities of stolen copper, smuggled medicines, unauthorized pharmaceutical products, illegal weight-gain pills, and banned cosmetic products posing serious risks to public health.
Acting on the intelligence, the operation was conducted under the direct supervision of Major General of Police Saif Al-Din Mohammed Idris, Director of the General Directorate of Trade, Supply and Consumer Protection Investigations, and led in the field by Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed Al-Zubair Abdullah, Director of Trade and Consumer Protection Investigations in Khartoum State, accompanied by Captain Abdullah Salah.
After several weeks of surveillance and monitoring, police launched a well-coordinated raid, arresting three key suspects at the premises.
The search uncovered more than 1.26 metric tons of stolen copper, 51 cartons of smuggled medicines and pharmaceutical products, 23 cartons containing more than 138,000 unauthorized weight-gain pills (approximately 6,000 pills per carton), large quantities of banned cosmetic products, and 1,560 packs of Princess-brand paper products.
The raid also revealed an alarming security dimension. Officers seized an M16 assault rifle with two magazines and 75 rounds of live ammunition, two automatic pistols with magazines and ammunition, military clothing including khaki trousers, military insignia bearing the rank of Major, and a Hyundai Sonata bearing registration number 11760 Sh1, allegedly used to transport the illegal goods.
The suspects and seized items were transferred under tight security to Madinat Al-Nil Police Station, where criminal cases were opened under the relevant provisions of Sudanese laws relating to consumer protection, public health, pharmaceuticals, firearms, and ammunition.
Police investigations are ongoing to identify other individuals linked to the network and uncover the full extent of its criminal activities.
The operation underscores the vigilance and operational readiness of Khartoum State’s Trade and Consumer Protection Investigation Department in combating organized crime, protecting the national economy, and safeguarding public health and security.
