High-level Sudanese-Egyptian diplomatic talks in Cairo focus on bilateral relations
On Saturday, Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad, received Mohi El-Din Salem, the Sudanese Foreign Minister, as part of ongoing consultations and coordination between the two countries.
Tamim Khallaf, the official spokesperson for the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the meeting reflected the depth of the fraternal and historical relations between Egypt and Sudan. The two ministers affirmed their shared commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations and developing cooperation across various fields, in order to achieve the common interests of both countries and their peoples, and to reinforce the existing bonds of cooperation and coordination between them.
The spokesperson added that Minister Abdel-Aty reiterated Egypt’s unwavering support for the unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national institutions of Sudan, and its rejection of the establishment of any parallel entities. He emphasized the importance of reaching a humanitarian truce that paves the way for a sustainable ceasefire and the resumption of the political process, while ensuring humanitarian access to affected areas, respecting the principle of Sudanese ownership of the political solution, and underscoring the importance of the Quartet’s efforts to support stability and end the conflict.
The official spokesperson explained that the Sudanese Foreign Minister expressed his country’s appreciation for the support Egypt provides to Sudan at various levels, commending Egypt’s supportive stances on Sudanese unity and stability. He also reviewed the efforts undertaken by the Sudanese government to address current challenges, emphasizing the commitment to continued coordination and consultation with Egypt in the coming period to serve the interests of both countries and their brotherly peoples.
The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release that the meeting between the two ministers addressed the trajectory of bilateral relations and ways to strengthen and develop them across various fields. They also discussed several issues of mutual interest within the framework of ongoing coordination and consultation between Sudan and Egypt. Furthermore, the two sides discussed the operations of the Sudanese Embassy in Cairo and the Sudanese consulates in Aswan and Alexandria, as well as the challenges facing consular services and the provision of services to Sudanese citizens residing in Egypt.
According to the statement, Badr Abdel-Aty affirmed his country’s commitment to providing all necessary support and facilities to Sudanese diplomatic and consular missions. He directed the relevant authorities to address existing problems and resolve obstacles facing the Sudanese embassy and consulates, thereby enhancing performance efficiency and facilitating services provided to Sudanese citizens.
Foreign Minister and Minister of International Cooperation, Mohi El-Din Salem, expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s support to Sudan, praising the level of cooperation and coordination between the two countries and commending the positive response from the Egyptian side regarding issues related to the situation of Sudanese missions and the Sudanese community in Egypt.
The two ministers agreed to continue coordination and consultation between their respective foreign ministries and relevant authorities, and to strengthen joint follow-up mechanisms for implementing the agreements reached. This reflects the depth of the historical and fraternal relations that bind Sudan and Egypt and serves the common interests of both peoples.
