Khartoum Social Development Calls for Broader Partnership with UNFPA to Support Women and Advance Social Recovery

The Director General of the Ministry of Social Development in Khartoum State, Siddiq Hassan Farini, called for stronger cooperation between the ministry and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to enhance women’s support programs, strengthen social protection, and address the humanitarian and social impacts of the war.

During a meeting with UNFPA Sudan Representative Fabrice Follon and Gender-Based Violence Program Manager Azra Theis, Farini welcomed the resumption of UNFPA activities in Khartoum and emphasized the need for effective partnerships to support women and vulnerable families affected by the conflict.

He highlighted the ministry’s efforts to address social challenges, including the establishment of a specialized unit to combat violence against women, and proposed a joint action program focusing on essential services, women’s economic empowerment, and strengthened protection mechanisms.

UNFPA representatives reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation with the ministry, supporting programs for vulnerable women, and conducting studies to assess the social impact of the war and guide future interventions.

The meeting concluded with both sides stressing the importance of strengthening partnership efforts to support social recovery and improve the conditions of women and other vulnerable groups in Khartoum State.
