Meeting in the Irish Parliament Paves the Way for the Establishment of a Friends of Sudan Group

Sudan and Ireland agreed to proceed with the establishment of a parliamentary Friends of Sudan group, following a meeting between the Chargé d’Affaires at the Sudanese Embassy in Dublin, Omar Ahmed, and the Speaker of the Irish Parliament, Verona Murphy.
During the meeting, Murphy affirmed the Irish Parliament’s commitment to supporting efforts aimed at achieving peace and stability in Sudan, emphasizing the importance of strengthening parliamentary communication and expanding cooperation channels to support the Sudanese people during this current phase.
For his part, the Chargé d’Affaires expressed his appreciation for Ireland’s supportive stance, stressing that the establishment of the Friends of Sudan group constitutes an important step towards enhancing mutual understanding and coordinating parliamentary efforts in support of the peace process and a political solution.
