PM briefed on arrangements for scientific conference to rebuild post-war higher education
During a meeting at his office, the Prime Minister, Professor Kamil Idris, was briefed by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Professor Ahmed Mudawi Musa, in the presence of the Prime Minister’s Advisor and Special Representative, Dr. Hussein Al-Hafyan, on the Ministry’s efforts to rebuild and develop the higher education and scientific research sector, which was affected by the war.
The Minister of Higher Education reviewed the Ministry’s response to the Prime Minister’s directives to adopt the initiative for the reconstruction of post-war Sudan. He noted his meeting with a delegation from the Education Committee, which is part of the Higher Committee for the Reconstruction of Post-War Sudan. This delegation comprises a select group of scholars, experts, and academics.
The Minister said that the delegation included several academic leaders, among them Professor Imad El-Din El-Amin El-Tahir Aradaib, Director of the University of Khartoum and Chairman of the Higher Committee for the Reconstruction of Sudan; his deputy, Professor Samir Shaheen, Director of the University of Medical Sciences and Technology; Professor Mohamed Ahmed Ali El-Sheikh, Chairman of the Education Committee for the initiative; Professor Azhari Omar Abdel-Baqi, Head of the Higher Education and Scientific Research Group; Professor Siham Mohamed Ahmed Bakheet, the committee’s rapporteur; and a number of other experts.
He indicated that the committee presented a detailed diagnosis of the current state of higher education, accompanied by a comprehensive vision for addressing the challenges and developing the sector.
The meeting emphasized the importance of holding a conference entitled “Education Week,” the outcomes of which will form the basis for the strategic plan for higher education in the coming phase. It was explained that the conference’s outcomes aim to rebuild and develop the higher education and scientific research sector through several key areas, including developing systems and governance, strengthening financial and human resources, improving the quality of the educational and research process, and supporting scientific research and innovation and linking it to development.
The Minister added that the conference’s outputs exceeded 500 pages, with the participation of more than 130 experts from universities, research centers, and organizations. These outputs addressed 11 main themes, including policies and strategic planning, international cooperation, digital transformation and e-learning, student welfare and community service, and the role of higher education in promoting social cohesion and societal recovery.
In the same context, the Minister reviewed the initial concept for the planned conference, explaining that its vision is based on establishing a comprehensive national platform to formulate a comprehensive and implementable strategic framework for rebuilding higher education in a way that enhances stability and social peace and supports sustainable development.
He explained that the conference, to be held under the title “Education Week” and under the patronage of the Prime Minister, will last for six days and cover the various stages of education (higher, general, technical and vocational, and professional training), with the participation of the Ministries of Higher Education and Scientific Research, National Education and Training, and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Prime Minister commended the efforts of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the efforts of Dr. Hussein Al-Hafyan, Advisor and Special Representative of the Prime Minister, who has closely followed the efforts and contributions of the High Committee for the Reconstruction of Sudan after the War since its inception in June 2015, affirming his support for the conference and its outcomes.
