Introducing the hepatitis B vaccine into the routine for children next January

The Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) has announced the introduction of the hepatitis B vaccine as part of the routine vaccination schedule, in three phases starting from 2026. The first phase will begin in January and will include the states of the northern, central, and eastern sectors.

The Director of the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) at the Ministry, Ismail Al-Adani, stated in a press release after the conclusion of the training workshop for trainers in the states today at the Al-Rih Al-Tarifi Hall in Kassala, that the second phase will include the three states of the Kordofan sector next February, followed by the Darfur sector, which includes its five states, in March. He emphasized the importance of the vaccine in protecting newborns from the risk of contracting the disease by receiving the vaccine within the first 24 hours of birth.

The head of the routine department at the program, Nader Hammad, revealed that a plan has been developed to train service providers in the coming days, in addition to a comprehensive plan for all activities, including reinforcement activities, midwifery homes, and others.
