Energy Minister Inspects Completion of (10) New Strategic Storage Facilities at Nile Petroleum Company
Minister of Energy, Engineer Al-Mutasim Ibrahim Ahmed, inspected the completion of the new strategic storage facilities at Nile Petroleum Company, which are nearing operational status. This inspection took place during his field visit to the company’s headquarters in Port Sudan today.
The Minister stated, “We are working under exceptional circumstances that necessitate increased fuel storage capacity following the targeting of petroleum facilities across the country, particularly storage depots.” He commended the efforts of Nile Petroleum Company employees for this achievement, which was accomplished entirely by Sudanese personnel from the Sudanese Pipeline Company and Nile Petroleum Company. He emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to retaining and developing its highly qualified workforce and its dedication to creating a suitable working environment, taking into account the challenging working conditions.
For his part, Dr. Hisham Taj Al-Sir, Director General of Nile Petroleum Company, stated, “We have constructed four new storage facilities for gasoline and diesel, each with a capacity of one million liters of fuel, in addition to a fifth facility with a capacity of two million liters of water for firefighting. This facility is equipped with a fire station and its accessories, along with a comprehensive safety system.”
This is in addition to the construction of six horizontal gas storage tanks, each with a capacity of 100 tons of gas. Work is underway to add four more tanks, bringing the total capacity to 1,000 tons of gas. These new additions provide more than one loading platform, leading to greater flexibility in distribution. It is expected that the storage capacity will reach ten million liters in the near future, bringing the total capacity of Nile Company’s storage facilities to 14 million cubic liters of fuel.
It is worth noting that Nile Company alone lost four storage facilities that were destroyed by drone strikes last May, in addition to other facilities that were also damaged.
