Minister of State for Finance Affirms Strengthening Partnership with IFAD

Dr. Mohamed Nour Abdel Daim, Minister of State for Finance, emphasized the importance of strengthening partnership with IFAD in financing agricultural projects. He pointed out the need to leverage these projects to work in partnership with farmers to achieve sectoral and local development and increase productivity.

The Minister called for the need to utilize these projects in safe areas to operate at full production capacity. The Minister of State also praised the Fund’s efforts in agricultural projects in Sudan.

A delegation from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), headed by Ms. Rasha Omar, Director of the IFAD Country Office in Sudan, briefed Dr. Mohamed Nour Abdel Daim, Minister of State for Finance, on its existing projects in Sudan, which it intends to rehabilitate and develop in the coming period, such as the Suki Agricultural Project and others. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Animal Resources.

For her part, Rasha Omar said that IFAD is in the process of rehabilitating these projects, most notably the Suki Agricultural Project.

She noted that the Fund had previously focused on irrigated projects and then shifted its focus to the rain-fed sector, which is appropriate for IFAD’s funding. She explained that, due to the war, the Fund is now working on existing projects in the central and eastern regions, both rain-fed and irrigated, utilizing all available resources.

Rasha Omar also indicated that the Fund is in the process of communicating with the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development to contribute to preparing an economic feasibility study for the rehabilitation of the Suki Agricultural Project.
