Federal and State Ministries of Health inaugurate the second phase of the vaccination campaign against cholera

The Undersecretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, and the Director General of the Ministry of Health in Khartoum State inaugurated the second phase of the vaccination campaign against the cholera from inside the headquarters of the State Ministry, targeting five localities in Khartoum State.

The Undersecretary explained that cholera is one of the serious diseases that must be dealt with urgently, pointing out that vaccination is not a substitute for other health measures, but rather a complement to them, such as improving the health of the environment and chlorinating water, while stressing the importance of the positive role of the citizen in reducing the spread of the disease.

The Undersecretary pointed out that the siege of the citizens by the Militias and the destruction of water sources was the main reason for the outbreak of the epidemic, revealing that the vaccination rate reached 75% of the targeted people in Khartoum State, and vaccines and mosquito nets were delivered to the states of Darfur. He added that the campaign carries a message to the world about the needs of citizens for basic medical services, and an extension of previous campaigns.

He announced the launch of a national campaign to clean the environment and control disease vectors in all states of Sudan with the support of the Federal Ministry of Finance, starting next week in Khartoum State and lasting for three months.

The Director General of the Ministry of Health in Khartoum State, Dr. Fattah Al-Rahman Mohamed Al-Amin, explained that the spread of the cholera epidemic has decreased in the recent period thanks to the interventions of the Federal Ministry of Health and the continuation of vaccination campaigns.
