Beleish: Jeddah Agreement Remains a Platform for Serious Dialogue

Head of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant General Abdul Fattah Al-Burhan, received the African Union Representative to Sudan, Mohamed Beleish, in Port Sudan today (Tuesday).
The meeting was attended by the Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Omar Siddiq, and Ambassador Ahmed Youssef, Acting Director of the African Union Department.

In a press statement following the meeting, Mohamed Beleish said that he conveyed to the Head of the Sovereignty Council the greetings of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Ambassador Mahmoud Ali Youssef, affirming his support and interest in Sudan’s unity and stability.
He added that his visit to Sudan comes within the framework of exploring ways to achieve peace, security, and stability in Sudan.

Belaish noted that the meeting was fruitful, transparent, and frank, and addressed the overall developments in Sudan.
He expressed his hope that Sudan would serve as a model for crisis resolution in Africa.
He noted that the formation of an independent civilian government with national competencies is an important step toward alleviating the suffering of the Sudanese people, improving services, and initiating the gradual reconstruction process to enable the displaced and refugees to return to their homes.

The African Union representative said, “It is commendable that the armed forces continue to defeat the rebellion and restore stability to Sudan.”
He called for the importance of adopting dialogue to resolve differences and overcome the bitterness of the past, in accordance with the agreement signed in Jeddah on May 11, 2023, which provides the basis for ending the war and launching a serious dialogue among the people of Sudan.
