SFPA – River Nile State Branch – confirms implementation of programs in partnership with UNFPA to address gender-based violence

The Sudanese Family Planning Association, (River Nile State branch), concluded its workshop on case management for gender-based violence at the Nile Hotel in Atbara today.
The workshop was sponsored by the state Ministry of Social Affairs and funded by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
In her closing remarks, Ms. Kawthar Mohamed Ibrahim, the association’s Executive Director in the state, emphasized the association’s focus on gender-based violence and victim care.
She noted the association’s implementation of numerous programs and activities in coordination and cooperation with relevant authorities, especially after the outbreak of war and the increase in violence, with the aim of contributing to addressing its negative impacts.
She added that the association organized several training workshops to care for and support survivors, including medical personnel, including doctors, specialists, midwives, and a number of police officers and civil society organizations.
The workshops included methods for providing psychological support and treating clinical cases.
She stated that the association has an integrated service center in Atbara that has received a number of survivors and provided them with psychological support, health services, and legal advice. She added that the association provides legal advice and has a legal advisor dedicated to this.
Ms. Kawthar expressed her thanks and appreciation for the ongoing cooperation between the association and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in this regard and in various areas of reproductive health.
She urged the workshop participants to emphasize the importance of applying what they learned and trained in the workshop so that survivors can reach safety and a secure society.
She emphasized their efforts to increase safe spaces.
For her part, Ms. Rawan Younis Adam, UNFPA representative and workshop trainer, praised the cooperative relationship with the Sudanese Family Planning Association, emphasizing that the workshop aimed to educate and train workshop participants on effective methods for managing cases of gender-based violence and achieved many of its objectives.
For her part, Ms. Rania Mohamed Hussein, the workshop coordinator, explained that the participants in the workshop represented six organizations: the Association, UNICEF, International Rescue Committee, Nada Al-Azhar, National Planning, and the Near East.
At the end of the workshop, they expressed their satisfaction with the workshop’s programs, adding that they learned about the six required steps for dealing with survivors and the best methods for caring for and providing services to them.
They thanked the Sudanese Family Planning Association and UNFPA upon receiving their certificates of participation.
