Mecca Eye Center resumes services in Omdurman

In response to the call of the Governor of Khartoum, Ahmed Osman Hamza, for all institutions to return to the state, inspect their facilities, and work on their rehabilitation, the Al-Basar International Charitable Foundation has begun rehabilitating Mecca Eye Centers in Khartoum State.
Despite the estimated value of the destruction and looting of its facilities at $14 million, including the equipment and supplies stored in storage, this step was preceded by an urgent intervention to open a temporary headquarters in Omdurman, which has provided services throughout the war and to date to more than one million citizens.
The value of free surgeries and aids has reached 100 million Sudanese pounds. The Director General of the Ministry of Culture, Information and Tourism, Al-Tayeb Saad, acting on behalf of the Governor of Khartoum, toured the free camp in the western countryside and the Mecca Complex on Mecca Street in Riyadh, accompanied by Dr. Al-Aas Ahmed Kamel, the Regional Director of the Al-Basar Charitable Foundation, and Amir Abu Qurun, the General Manager of Mecca Complexes. Dr. Al-Aas revealed plans to establish 50 free medical camps, each serving 4,000 citizens. 400 surgeries and 1,500 glasses will be performed, in addition to the free distribution of eye drops and medications. During his visit to Al-Jereif West Camp, he added that 200 cases will be interviewed and free medication and glasses will be provided. Cases requiring surgery will be referred to the Omdurman Complex.
At the Mecca Complex in Riyadh, where cleaning and rehabilitation operations are underway, Dr. Al-Aas announced plans to open the complex, in addition to the Kalakla branch, after Eid, after the return of electricity. In a smart partnership with the Governor of Khartoum, we will return all Mecca hospitals to operation. We have also begun rehabilitating the Mecca Ophthalmology Complex in Riyadh, the main complex that offers 15 specialties in ophthalmology treatment.
It includes 6 clinics, an examination room, and an operating room consisting of 8 rooms, each of which performs 4 surgeries with an average of (100- 150) Operations Daily
The representative of the Governor of Khartoum and the official spokesman for the Khartoum State government said that Mecca has defied all odds and responded to citizens’ need for eye treatment after they had been struggling to obtain it in other states. He said that the rehabilitation work taking place in the complexes represents the greatest incentive for citizens to return, given the distinction that the Riyadh Complex had achieved in providing its services to all of Sudan. He announced the state government’s support for the steps taken by the Mecca administration in providing services in Omdurman and through the camps, and by starting the rehabilitation work in line with the steps taken by the governor to restore life to the state.
