The Sudanese Embassy in Austria holds a press conference on the latest developments in the country

Ambassador Magdi Ahmed Mufaddal, Sudan’s Ambassador to Austria, explained that the decisions taken by the Security and Defense Council last week to declare the United Arab Emirates an aggressive state and sever diplomatic relations with it came against the backdrop of intensified drone attacks by Rapid Support Forces rebels on civilian facilities and infrastructure, particularly in Port Sudan.

He explained that the type of drones used is only available to foreign countries, which is consistent with reports from various sources such as Amnesty International, Radio France 25, the Panel of Experts on Security Council Resolution 1591, and statements by US Representative Sarah Jacob, who called on her government to halt arms exports to the UAE due to its support for the Rapid Support Forces rebels.

In the same context, the ambassador reviewed the most significant developments in the country since the beginning of the year, most notably the US State Department’s decision regarding the rebels’ perpetration of genocide in West Darfur, the liberation of the capital, Khartoum, and the return of significant numbers of displaced persons and refugees to their homes, and the rebels’ perpetration of a massacre in the Zamzam camp for displaced persons, which claimed the lives of more than 400 civilians and displaced more than 450,000 others.

This came during a press conference organized by the Sudanese Embassy in Austria on May 12, 2025, which included video clips showing some of the destruction caused by drone attacks on fuel depots in Port Sudan, Kosti, and other civilian facilities. It also included scenes from the liberation of Khartoum, the flight of the rebels, and the massive destruction in the capital, along with some of the atrocities committed by the rebels, such as the burning of bodies inside a container in Khartoum State.
