GIS in Kassala seizes 44.9 kilograms of smuggled gold

The General Intelligence Service (GIS) in Kassala State thwarted an attempt to smuggle large quantities of gold following a well-planned ambush on the national highway targeting a 2016 model truck.
The operation was based on accurate security information and close monitoring.

According to security sources, during the initial inspection, 10 gold bars weighing 19.5 kilograms were found tightly concealed inside the truck.
After legal procedures were taken and a preliminary report was filed, additional information led to a re-inspection of the truck, where 13 additional bars weighing 25 kilograms were seized, bringing the total gold seized to 44.9 kilograms.
The operation was carried out by a specialized team from the Kassala State Security Department.
An official report was filed and legal proceedings were initiated against those involved in the smuggling attempt.
In a special statement, Kassala State Security Director, Brigadier General Radwan Bahagil, commended the significant efforts made by the team that carried out the operation, praising the professionalism and high level of preparedness demonstrated by the General Intelligence Service personnel.
Radwan said, “We highly appreciate this successful operation, which reflects the vigilance of the General Intelligence Service in combating illegal activities that drain the country’s resources. We will continue our efforts with determination to protect the national economy and pursue smuggling and organized crime networks, and we will not allow Kassala to become a safe haven for violators.”
